Asbestos Inspections & Testing Montreal
In Quebec, any material found to contain 0.1% or greater content of asbestos fibres is considered to be hazardous. Should your home or commercial building contain asbestos, it is recommended that you contact a specialist for inspection. These materials, when left exposed or damaged, can cause severe health effects including mesothelioma and lung cancer. Asbestos poses health risks only when fibers are present in the air that people breathe.
Typically, asbestos is most commonly found in older homes or buildings (built until the 1980`s) that contain ACM’s (Asbestos Containing Materials). These materials can include things like tile, cement siding, plaster, sprayed fireproofing insulation, thermal pipe, boiler/furnace insulation and more. Asbestos Material Sampling
One of our professionals will come to your property and conduct a thorough visual inspection of any potentially contaminated areas or materials. Once the visual inspection is complete, we will take samples of affected materials and have them analysed by an accredited lab in accordance with method 244-2 of the Institut de recherche Robert-Sauvé en santé et en sécurité du travail (IRSST). The results are professionally analyzed for type and percentage of asbestos present and then a detailed report is provided to you with suggestions on how to treat your property.
Vermiculite Inspection and Testing
Some vermiculite insulation may contain asbestos fibres. These products can cause health risks if disturbed during maintenance, renovation or demolition. This type of insulation is often found behind floorboards or in an attic.
If you are concerned that your home may contain vermiculite-based insulation it is highly recommended to perform a test, particularly in relation to a property acquisition.
